Yeovilton health promotion day
Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton seized the opportunity alongside supporting No Smoking Day on 12 March 14 to hold a Health Promotion Day.
In the Junior Rates Dining Hall this year’s message was” V for victory” as supported by the British Heart Foundation and was combined with other areas of general health appealing to all personnel on the station led by Petty Officer (PO) Dental Hygienist Lesley Higgs.
The display stands included Dental Oral health and diet; Healthy Lifestyles (Medical Centre), No Smoking stand (Dental and Medical), Welfare/Hive and the Chaplaincy, the Gymnasium Team , Rachel Pizzey from the Somerset drug and alcohol team and Chlamydia team.
Simon Greatorex gave golf instruction from Yeovil Golf Club, Paul Stevenson had a display of bikes from Rock and Road cycles, Studio cck (health and beauty team) were led by Donna Cox and her team and all were enthusiastically giving help and advice on health and wellbeing.
Jacquie Lindgren from Jamie at home and Sodexo provided healthy food demonstrations and a juice/smoothies bar for health on the inside!
Commodore (Cdre) Jock Alexander, Commanding Officer of RNAS Yeovilton showed his support to the health and fitness of his personnel when he encountered “Big Cig” by stamping it out! The Cdre said “it’s a great turnout with some very useful information on the stands. It’s an excellent way to further encourage the boys and girls of the Royal Navy to look after themselves”.
The day was a great success; a wide range of health information was conveyed to the military and civilian personnel on RNAS Yeovilton who were encouraged to adopt a much healthier approach to life.
