Fly Navy 100
In 1909, when aviation was in its infancy, the Admiralty placed an order for an airship. 2009 saw the Royal Navy celebrating 100 years of innovation in Naval Aviation, leading to today's integrated and efficient Fleet Air Arm.
Highlights of Fly Navy 100 (FN100) included visits by HMS Illustrious to London (6-11 May) and Liverpool (22-27 October), a Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral (8 May), a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace (9 July), a new FAA memorial dedicated at the National Memorial Arboretum (11 September), and a Royal Centenary Gala Dinner in the Old Royal Naval College Greenwich (10 December).
