On this day 24 February 1970 824 NAS forms at RNAS Culdrose, the first operational Sea King squadron for anti-submarine duties in HMS ARK ROYAL.
824 Squadron's own Commissioning was held at HMS Seahawk on Fri 27 Feb 1970 and the principle guest was Rear Admiral CK Roberts CB, DSO, Flag Officer Naval Flying Training.
