Call for Veteran Nominations: National VE70 Commemoration Events

London
08May2015

Anybody meeting the eligibility criteria and interested in attending one of the events detailed, please contact the Admin Director via email: [email protected]   or tel: 020 7930 7722 as soon as possible.  The FAAOA Admin Director will be co-ordinating responses from our members, so please ensure you contact Gill directly and not the RBL.

From the RBL:

We will be happy to receive nominations from suitable VE Day Veterans, each with a nominated carer who could be available in London over this weekend and able to attend one of the following three events.

1.    Friday 8 May:  Attendance at the Cenotaph Service of Remembrance at 3pm, followed by a late afternoon reception at the Foreign Office.

2.    Sunday 10 May:  Attendance at the Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey at 11 am, followed by a march from the Abbey, through Whitehall and Horse Guards Parade into St James’ Park where there will be a veterans’ lunch reception hosted by The Royal British Legion.

3.    The final option, taking into account the limited number of places available within Westminster Abbey, would be simply to participate in the march at the conclusion of the Abbey Service and to attend the veteran’s lunch reception.

In terms of eligibility to attend, the criteria we ask for is that all veterans are 85 years and over and that they played an active role during the Second World War in terms of either military, medical and emergency services, the Home Guard, Land Army or in any one of the reserved occupations.  Further details of the event they are ultimately chosen to attend would be confirmed shortly after 17 April.

When submitting nominations, we would be most grateful if you could provide the following details:

  • Name of Veteran
  • Date of Birth of Veteran
  • Name of Nominated Carer
  • Main point of contact for both parties:

ü  Telephone

ü  Email

ü  Postal Address

We will then provide each veteran/carer with an accreditation link to complete their registration process. Travel costs will be reimbursed for the chosen veterans and their carer – the details for this process will be outlined in more detail as soon as possible.
