Navy SAR Pilot Completes Charity Cycle Ride

Tregony man Lieutenant Alex Stevenson, 39, has cycled 650 miles from his current base in Prestwick to the Royal Navy’s other search and rescue station at Culdrose in Cornwall – Britain’s most southerly search and rescue unit.

He was joined in his quest to raise loads of cash for Erskine, The Royal British Legion and Yorkhill Children’s Hospital in Glasgow, by RAF winchman Sergeant Andy Dixon and Royal Marines winchman Sergeant Lee Haggerty.

When asked about his feeling after completing the challenge Alex said “I am elated, it has been a very hard six days. This final day was the shortest mileage wise however the hardest as far as the terrain is concerned”

All three of the conquerors were greeted by 771 Royal Navy Search and Rescue Squadron, and as they crossed the finish line, they were met by two giant poppies –Who are pilots on the squadron!

Alex added “I am incredible proud to have achieved this charity challenge, we have had some great support along the way. For me the Royal British Legion was the perfect charity to raise money for. They do some fantastic work, from helping the guys and girls that have come back from Afghanistan in a less fortunate position to us, to providing support for families and veterans all over the country. It was well worth it.”
