Search and Rescue
In 2017 the Sea King was retired and all RN Search and Rescue was contracted out to commercial operators and HM Coastguard.
771 Naval Air Squadron was based at RNAS Culdrose. They carried out over 200 rescues a year, ranging from long range medical evacuation from ships at sea, assistance to vessels in distress, to the safe recovery of stranded cliff fallers, swimmers, divers and surfers. The SAR flight at HMS Gannet, Prestwick, was the busiest in the UK.
