CULDROSE PRESENTS MAGNIFICENT PICTURE TO TOWN

Published: 02 Mar 2015

The Mayor of Helston has welcomed the new Commanding Officer of Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose to theWestCornwallTown.

Captain Adrian Orchard OBE received a warm welcome to Helston’s Guildhall ahead of a full council meeting by the town’s Mayor Mike Thomas. Capt Orchard was able to view a framed print of an aerial photograph showing Helston and its surrounding area, taken by one of Culdrose’s photographers, Leading Hand (Photographer) Joel Rouse.

One of the pictures already hangs in the Mayors parlour, while a second is to be displayed in a public area of the Guildhall so that all members of the public can enjoy it. They were gifted to the town by the former Commander of Culdrose Capt Mark Garratt, after the Mayor asked him whether it was possible to take such an image.

“It is a great pleasure to welcome our new captain on-board,” said Mayor Mike Thomas. “On behalf of Helston Town Council I’d like to thank Captain Orchard for this magnificent piece of photography. It is almost a piece of art in its own right.”

He gave a big thank you to all the staff at RNAS Culdrose who was involved in creating and producing the picture.

Capt Orchard joked, “Its always nice taking credit for something you didn’t do!

It’s a tremendous honour to present this aerial picture, which clearly shows Helston, our Air Station and the link road which pulls together the town and the base.”

Captain Orchard added that all he has received since his arrival just over a month ago was “a friendly welcome.”
