SEA CADETS VISIT COMMANDO HELICOPTER FORCE

Published: 02 Jun 2015

EIGHT cadets from Trowbridge Sea Cadet Corps, Training Ship Achilles, undertook a successful visit to the Commando Helicopter Force at the invitation of a former cadet.

They were introduced to the old and the new of CHF, visiting 848 Naval Air Squadron where they  enjoyed a tour of the Sea King Mk4, followed by the more modern Merlin Mk3 on 846 NAS.

During the visit, the cadets learned about the breadth of environments that the CHF work in, from the freezing conditions of theArcticto the heat of the desert, and the variety of roles that the Force can be expected to undertake. The visit concluded with a visit to the excellent Fleet Air Arm museum.

Former cadet, Lt Cdr David Thompson, said,

“Having left Trowbridge Sea Cadets over 20 years ago, it was good to be able to give something back to the Unit.  Living in Wiltshire, so many miles from the sea, I remember any interaction with the Royal Navy being useful and exciting and the cadets enjoyed the chance to see the helicopters up close.”
