Yeovil District Council supports Armed Forces Day
A SPECIAL flag was raised today in Somerset at the district council's Brympton Way offices, Yeovil in celebration of this year's national Armed Forces Day.
The ceremony marked the build up to Armed Forces Day on Saturday 29 June 2013, an event that takes place every year to celebrate the UK's armed forces - past, present and future.
The Vice-Chairman of South Somerset District Council, Cllr Carol Goodall was joined by representatives from Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton, the Somerset Army Cadet Force, Soldiers Sailors & Airmen Families, Air Training Corps and AgustaWestland, beginning a week of official celebrations across the country.
Councillor Carol Goodall said, “As an ex-member of Her Majesty’s Forces, I was delighted to welcome serving personnel, cadets, veterans and members of other agencies to our flag ceremony at Brympton Way which recognises the invaluable service and efforts of our Armed Forces.”
Leading Aircraft Engineering Technician (LAET) Edward Davis (34) from RNAS Yeovilton said “it’s nice to meet up with people who are likeminded and support us in the Armed forces appreciating what we do. This is an opportunity to join together and recognise the good work we do and it’s great to be so well supported by the Public”.
District councillors and staff came out to show their respect for the short flag raising service. The Flag was raised by Connor O’Hara (17) and Jake Sheasby (17) from the Air cadets 1032 Squadron
