The Sea Cadet Aviation team have completed their second course of the year
The Sea Cadet Aviation team completed their second course of the year as guests of Portsmouth Naval Gliding Club, Lee on Solent at the end of May.
10 cadets who were selected from the earlier ground school attended the week long course and spent the first few days on the airfield updating their previous ground school theory and preparing for their final theory exams while watching the mixed weather outside the classroom. Thunderstorms and heavy showers coupled with low cloud and occasional height winds prevented any flying. However, the weather did improve and over the next four days all achieved three air experience flights with pilots Lt (SCC) John Reeve RNR and CPO (SCC) Carl Mason making the most of these days with first flights commencing around 0630 and ending just before sunset.
The cadets were able to put their navigation theory into practice as they flew several planned routes over the Isle of White and Solent and even tried their hand at radiotelephony in and around the circuit.
All the cadets were pleased to pass the course after a few sleepless nights and were presented with their Silver Wings by HQSO Aviation Lt (SCC) Marc Pether RNR
