RFA ARGUS CREW TAKE TO THE CORNISH SKIES
A team from the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Ship Argus took advantage of a break in their demanding programme to experience the thrill of Gliding at nearby Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose.
Travelling from their homeport atFalmouth, where the Royal Navy’s aviation training ship has just completed a period alongside, six crewmembers were invited by HMS Seahawk Gliding Club to an afternoon of soaring and swooping over the Lizard Peninsular.
“I wish I’d done this years ago now,” said 2nd Officer James Challinor. “It’s something I can scrub off my bucket list now.”
The RFA Argus personnel were treated to at least two flights each, teaming up with some of RNAS Culdrose current Glider pilots from the Seahawk club.
“It was great adventure training activity. To be able to have the controls and fly over my house was a brilliant experience,” said Leading Hand Andrew Knowles.
Overall this was a great way to spend an afternoon whilst the ship was docked inFalmouth, as she prepares to enter an incredibly busy period of Flag officer Sea Training (FOST), Ex Medical Endeavour and all the Fleet Air Arms Aviation Training over the summer.
