Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal - Exclusion of Military Veterans -latest.

Published: 11 Jan 2012

A spokeswoman for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (not the Governmental Representative for Veterans) when questioned as to why military veterans were to be left out of the many groups to be awarded the medal has said that it is also important to maintain the integrity and exclusivity of the medal, so it is simply not possible to include all these groups. It was also indicated that as the contract to strike the medals had already been struck, it was extremely unlikely that there would be a change in policy at this stage.

From a letter to the Daily Telegraph - Sir – As an ex-serviceman, if I was offered the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal (Letters, January 1) I would refuse it.

I am still waiting for a medal for flying over Germany 31 times in the last war.
