On this Day 3 November 1952

Although 849NAS had reformed on 7 July 1952 in the Airborne Early Warning role, the first operational flight, 849NAS A Flight, didn’t form until 3 November 1952. B Flight followed 25 November 1952.

Sky Raider aircraft were fitted with powerful radar to detect ships and low flying aircraft enabling them to warn the Fleet of impending attacks.
