On 3 Jan 1978 702 Squadron formed at RNAS Yeovilton, from the Lynx Intensive Flying Trials Unit, and started aircrew training. The squadron moved to RNAS Portland in August 1982 and returned to Yeovilton January 1999 when Portland closed. 702 Squadron is the Lynx training squadron, equipped currently with Lynx HMA.8
