Let Them Eat Cake

Published: 12 Jun 2012

It was launched as a Stand Easy campaign, a Naval term for a coffee break, which was due to take place on Friday 1st June.

However, after seeing the fabulous array of cakes and goodies laid before him Cdr Mario Carretta, Chief Of Staff for the Commando Helicopter Force could not restrain himself and got stuck into the goodies 24 hours before the event was supposed to start. The produce, washed down with lashings of tea and coffee, had been lovingly crafted and then served by CHF personnel to over 30 personnel. Unfortunately Cdr Carretta’s wallet was unaware that each of the cakes came at a very high financial price!!

The aim of the Stand Easy campaign is to raise money for the Royal Navy and Royal Marine charities. The Charity exists to provide a better way of life for serving, injured and former naval service personnel and their families.

Sian Harley who arranged the day said, “I feel honoured to have organised this event, knowing that the money raised will go towards helping fellow service personnel and their families. I felt very patriotic making my Union Jack Flag cake. It was a great way to kick start the Jubilee weekend celebrations.
