HMS Queen Elizabeth floats for first time

Published: 16 Jul 2014

The UK’s largest ever warship, HMS Queen Elizabeth is now in her natural environment for the first time.

These two photos were taken last night and this morning at the Rosyth Royal Dockyard, on the Firth of Forth, while the dry docks were being flooded and HMS Queen Elizabeth felt the water on her hull for the first time.

In coming days she will be manoeuvred out of the dock and teams will continue to outfit the ship in preparation for sea trials in 2016.

The floating of HMS Queen Elizabeth comes 12 days after she was named by Her Majesty the Queen.
