East Anglian FOTTM visit to Somerleyton Hall

Published: 13 Aug 2013

On Wednesdaty 5th June members and their guests, 62 in number, made a private visit to Somerleyton Hall near Lowestoft.

We hoped for good weather and were rewarded with one of the best days of the year. On arrival we divided into two parties, one taking a guided tour of the Hall and the other the gardens and grounds. The tours were followed by an excellent lunch in the Conservatory, a bright and delightfully airy room adding to the enjoyment of the day.

Captain Alan Hensher, a Vice President and a prominent Past Chairman who gave as a short but inspirational address, certainly not out of place in these challenging times for the Fleet Air Arm.

Bob Neill who assists Bertie Vigrass with the Aviation Scholarship Trust spoke to us about its work and constant need of funds. In doing so he persuaded us, collectively, to part with nearly £300 of our cash to help the cause.

Finally we are indebted to Simon Askins and particularly Maragret Gooch, with her local connections and hard work, which made, what was a highly successful day, possible.
