Costa Del Culdrose. Real Madrid Run Football Camp at Naval Air Station

Published: 08 Aug 2017

From Monday 7 to Friday 11 August coaches from the famous Spanish side are be working with Culdrose Youth coaches training the young footballers of Cornwall. The aim of the camp is to develop the footballing skills of the boys and girls. Also, the coaches will be looking out for the professional footballers of the future. Players in West Cornwall do not always get the same amount of exposure as those nearer large centres of population. During the camp, the Spanish club’s coaches will be looking at the potential of the footballers. Those with talent will then go onto a Northern Europe trial and if successful there, travel to Madrid for further trials.

Culdrose coaches will also be interns of the Real Madrid system, so they too will benefit from the camp. Culdrose was chosen by Real Madrid because of their award winning community engagement. They are one of only four clubs in the UK that have been chosen to work with the Spanish side.

During the week long camp 6 Real Madrid coaches will run the clinic. The aim is to educate and have fun. 91 boys and girls aged between 7 and 14 will take part. 75 are from Culdrose youth with 16 coming from other local clubs. Part of the camp looks at healthy eating and nutrition. The local Culdrose contractor, SODEXO has been provided with menus from the coaches and they will feed the players. Along with their lunch, the players will receive a Real Madrid kit, water bottle and their coaching.

Culdrose Youth Chairman, Lieutenant Commander Andrew Plenty said, ‘this is a great opportunity for our footballers to show off their talent on a world stage. In west Cornwall such opportunities are limited. Some could progress and find themselves at atrial in Spain.’
