Commando Wildcats Returning Home

Published: 28 Mar 2023
Having smashed all their training targets, 847 Naval Air Squadron’s personnel and their Commando Wildcats have started to return back to RNAS Yeovilton. The Squadron has been on Operation Clockwork, which is run by the Commando Helicopter Force at the Royal Norwegian Airforce Base at Bardufoss, Norway, 200 miles inside the Arctic Circle.
One of the Squadron’s Commando Wildcat AH1 helicopters returned home in a Royal Air Force A400M Atlas C1 from70 Squadron based at Royal Air Force Brize Norton.
In a well drilled and fine tuned routine, 847 Naval Air Squadron engineers prepared the Commando Wildcat for transportation in only several hours. Once at Brize Norton the engineers reconfigured the helicopter for its flight back to Yeovilton, all within a couple of hours of it being unloaded.
