Yeovilton 'Stand Easy' Fundraising Event
Royal Naval Physical Training Instructor LPTI Joe Thornton was game for a laugh when he volunteered to be the target for an innovative fund raising event at the Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton.
Personnel from the Naval Air Base were invited to throw water bombs at the “Club Swinger”, paying for the privilege and raising money for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. “Lieutenant Becky Curtis and I came up with the idea and we both set about organising it. We got as many people involved as possible and collected about £25 - £30”, said Joe.
The event was part of a Royal Navy wide “Stand EASY” campaign to raise funds for the RNRMC.
The Royal Navy has a language all of its own which reflects its long history and also the culture, this is called “Jack Speak”. the fundraising campaign adopts the popular phrase “stand easy”:
The most relaxed stance when on paradeA specific period of relaxation built into the normal work routine: "I am going to the café at stand easy"
The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity exist to provide a better way of life for serving, injured and former naval service personnel and their families.
