Night at the Museum II

There’s another opportunity to go behind the scenes at the spiritual home of naval aviation when the doors close to visitors.

Night at the Museum II allows lovers of the Fleet Air Arm and its many flying machines unprecedented access to the most significant aircraft in its museum’s collection at Yeovilton.

Only on three evenings a year do curatorial staff allow enthusiasts into the sprawling museum – co-located with RNAS Yeovilton in Somerset – to get up close with the thousands of artefacts, clamber around inside some exhibit and try out the cockpits of vintage Wessex and Lynx helicopters, or peer into the cockpit of the Vampire which Capt Eric ‘Winkle’ Brown landed on the deck of HMS Ocean… the first jet ever to do so on a ship.

The evening includes entry to the main galleries (excluding flight deck) with curators and volunteers on hand to answer questions and tell more of the secrets of the museum and the collection of aircraft.

Tickets for the Thursday May 17 event are available from www.fleetairarm.com, £40.00 per person. Spaces are limited spaces and advance booking is essential. Doors open at 6pm.

Sensible clothing and footwear must be worn and access to aircraft is dependent upon your fitness level/overall mobility. All visits are subject to a briefing by a member of the museum team.
