Italian Carrier Operational

The new Italian aircraft carrier Cavour was declared fully operational recently and takes over the Navy's flagship role. Built by Fincantieri the 27,100 tonne light carrier can embark 24 aircraft, including up to eight Harrier AV-8Bs and 12 helicopters. The Harriers will be replaced by F-35Bs before 2020.

Cavour has a complement of 528 and can embark up to 450 troops and 24 tanks or 100 light vehicles as well as an operational headquarters team of 145. She carries four landing craft. Cavour was delivered three years ago but has undergone several modifications and long trials.
