HELP WANTED WITH MYSTERY PHOTOGRAPH - WESSEX 3 UC POSITION

Published: 10 Aug 2016

Marcus Peake, webmaster of the Australian FAAA and also member of the FAAOA, having served in the RN FAA from 69-79 is writing a piece about the Westland Wessex Mk 31 helicopters that served in the Royal Australian Navy (RAN)  from 62 to 89. He happened across the attached photograph in the Museum filed under ‘Wessex’ and shows the rear seat positions.

He is advised that it is not of the Wessex 31B, however, as it contains more sophisticated equipment than the RAN version as well as fuselage padding etc. It also appears to have a passive sonar capability that ours did not have.

It is certainly not of a Sea King (which he flew in the 70s) so was wondering if any ex Wessex 3 Observers could confirm that the photograph is of that model, and perhaps also tell him a little about the equipment visible in the image?  Any advice would be gratefully received.
