Floods in Netherlands in 1953

Published: 19 Dec 2012

Help Wanted finding Navy helicopter crews that helped in the disaster relief.

The picture was probably taken in Zijpe, on Wednesday, February 4th in 1953. The gentleman in the picture, Mr. Nadorp worked for the Red Cross. In the blanket he carries two babies. For a long time he tried to find these twins, because he wanted to know how they have been after the disaster. Mr. Nadorp is no longer alive, but his son has taken over the search.

About the twins not much is known, except that they were a few months old, probably of Schouwen-Duiveland and came on Wednesday, February 4th in 1953, by helicopter to Zijpe. Both kids were under a seat in the helicopter, wrapped in its own blankets. One baby was wrapped in a red and white striped blanket.

A Dutch television company is trying to help locate the Navy helicopter crews who helped in the disaster and in particular the crew that transported these twins. They believe the pilot may have been Lt Cdr Rex Turpin.
