Cycling to Afghanistan and back for charity

Published: 22 Jul 2013

7500 miles representing Afghanistan and Back in one day across  75 locations in the UK, Cyprus and in the Falkland Islands  -  all on exercise bikes

Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton saw the participation and contribution to miles cycled in a charity cycle ride on exercise bikes covering 7500 miles representing the actual distance from London to Kabul, initiated by our industry partners Sodexo. The aim was to raise money for STOP Hunger and the Soldier's, Sailor's and Airmen's Families Association (SSAFA).

Riders at RNAS Yeovilton assisted in reaching a total of 14000 miles, far in excess of the 7,500 miles aimed for! Support came from Sodexo employees, customers and naturally always ready for a challenge Sailors based at the Air Station who cycled throughout the day adding to the grand total contributed from the Royal Navy of 2015 miles across eight sites including RNAS Culdrose.

Sodexo can be found providing support at 75 sites from Horse Guards Parade to Port Stanley in the Falklands, bases in Cyprus and on the day a video link to Afghanistan where a bike was also being pedalled!

In all a fantastic £19000 was raised and a lot of miles of fitness achieved!
