CULDROSE CHRISTMAS STARTS WITH CAROLS AND FUN

Published: 14 Dec 2016

Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose Sports Centre pulled out all the stops once again for their annual ‘it’s a Knockout’ competition a week before Christmas.

This year, organisers decided to combine the event with the Air Station’s annual Carol Concert and personnel from across the Base were invited to wear Christmas or Santa related themed fancy dress. Accompanied by HMS Seahawk Volunteer Band and led by Sergeant Iain Scullion, the Reverend Andrew Corness directed proceedings with a collection of well-known traditional carols.

In all the teams taking part in the afternoon of fun came from a variety of different departments within RNAS Culdrose. Sickbay, Dental, Survival Equipment, MASF, Logistics and some of the various squadrons at Culdrose, all joined in. Competition was fierce and prizes were given to the best fancy dress as well.

All of the activities were themed around Christmas and one particular activity-posts required personnel to sing a Christmas carol and was judged by Andrew and his team. “It was really great seeing and hearing the carols being sung and such a novel idea for a whole station competition.”

Everyone went away with the Christmas bug and fully embraced the activities throughout. Santa’s nemesis the Grinch also made a timely appearance. His efforts to spoil Christmas however were tarnished and all who took part had a great day.

Warrant Officer Bridgette Turner, RNAS Culdrose’s Base Warrant Officer said, “It’s great to see as many people here, joining in with this station wide event, in our busy run up to Christmas. It’s also good that they’ve combined it with the traditional Carol Concert this year. We currently have several units deployed around the world, some will make it back in time for Christmas, but many others will be spending the festive period on ships and shore bases, serving their Country away from their families and friends.”
