Carrier update February

Last week the final section of jig was removed from HMS Queen Elizabeth’s ramp. This is a great step towards ramp completion, the final stage for the ramp is to complete the interface at the Aft end of the ramp to the flight deck. 

The aft aircraft lift aperture has been prepped, painted and had the scaffold broken in advance of the platform lift date of 26 February 14. 

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will attend a celebration in Rosyth on Friday 4 July 2014 for the naming of HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH. This prestigious event will celebrate a major milestone in the project and mark a significant moment in history. This achievement is testament to the hard work and dedication of all employees across the country working as part of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance delivering the first carrier in the Queen Elizabeth Class. Aircraft Carrier Alliance Announces Non-Executive Chairman 12 February 2014

The members of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance (ACA) are pleased to announce that Sir Peter Gershon is appointed Non-Executive Chairman, effective 1st February 2014. Sir Peter, Chairman Tate & Lyle plc and National Grid plc, will oversee the management Board of the ACA and its progress in delivering the two Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, which on entering service will become the United Kingdom's national flagships.

Commenting on the appointment, Secretary of State for Defence, Rt. Hon. Philip Hammond MP, said: "The Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers will be the biggest ships in the history of the Royal Navy. Now that we have renegotiated the contract between the MoD and industry to ensure proper alignment of interests, it is important this vast project is managed efficiently and governed effectively to ensure the delivery of carrier strike from 2020.

"Sir Peter's appointment will help to increase the coherence and coordination between MoD and industry as the programme reaches key milestones ahead of entering service with the Royal Navy."

Sir Peter is Currently Chairman of National Grid plc and Tate & Lyle plc. He is a member of HM Government Efficiency and Reform Board; and a member of the advisory board of The Sutton Trust.
