820 SQUADRON DELIVER EGGS TO CHILDREN IN HOSPITAL THIS EASTER

Published: 29 Mar 2012

On Wednesday 28th March, vital aid was airlifted to Treliske hospital in Truro in the form of Easter Eggs for the children of Sennen ward. 820 Naval Air Squadron descended onto the Hospital Landing Site in the form of Cdr Chris Godwin, the Commanding Officer of 820 NAS along with Lt Cdr Stu Finn, Petty Officer Ed Butcher and Air Engineering Technician David Norgate. The team stepped from the Merlin helicopter at Treliske helipad armed with 60 Easter Eggs to visit the children on the ward in order to spread some Easter cheer.

The Chocolatiers received a warm welcome from the staff on the ward and the eggs were gratefully received by the patients and their brothers and sisters alike. Sennen Children’s Ward at Treliske Hospital is one of 820 Naval Air Squadron’s local affiliations and so Petty Officer Ed Butcher had a whip-round of Squadron personnel to enable the eggs to be purchased and handed out to the children this Easter. This association has been in place for many years, and the Squadron also transports Santa to the Ward every Christmas to deliver some early gifts to children who are staying in hospital over the period.

Commander Chris Godwin, the Squadron Commanding Officer said:

“820 Squadron’s association with Sennen Ward is a very important one, with personal connections for some Squadron members whose own children have received excellent care and treatment there. It is important that we give something back to our community and as a result of our affiliation with the Ward we like to do as much as we can for the staff and patients throughout the year to put a smile on their faces.”
